Our Strategy
Practical Solutions. Informed Decisions. Controlled Investment.
Our Engineering Approach
At RXR Engineering & Design, we believe successful projects begin with a clear understanding of the customer’s needs, operational challenges, and financial objectives.
Our step-by-step engineering approach allows customers to evaluate potential solutions, understand project costs, and make informed decisions before committing significant capital to procurement and construction activities.
We begin by assessing existing conditions and developing practical concepts in consideration of the unique features from the site. Working with the client and end-user, we determine project feasibility, evaluate reasonable alternatives, and develop realistic budgets and schedules.
Once a project is approved, RXR can provide detailed engineering, equipment procurement, project management, construction coordination, and start-up support. Customers can engage RXR for an individual phase or partner with us throughout the entire project lifecycle.
Our purpose is not simply to deliver engineered drawings, but to help customers develop practical, cost-effective solutions that improve facility operations and support their long-term success and profitability.
Step-by-Step Engineering Strategy
RXR helps customers make informed engineering and investment decisions before they commit resources to finalized engineering, procurement or construction/installation. In our experience, this approach is particularly valuable for existing industrial facilities, grain handling operations, processing plants, equipment replacements, and plant expansions. Our strategy is broken up into six distinct phases.
Phase 1 — Identify Scope
Meet with the client to understand their end-goals for a potential project or capital improvement. We start off by identifying any current or potential operational challenges, determine project objectives, and flesh out potential limitations, all to develop realistic preliminary schedules and budget expectations.
Deliverable: Project needs assessment and preliminary scope.
Phase 2 — Evaluate Existing Conditions
Perform site visit(s), field measurements, 3D LiDAR scanning, structural inspections, equipment evaluations, and review existing drawings.
Deliverable: Existing conditions assessment and identification of constraints.
Phase 3 — Develop Conceptual Solutions
Using information from the previous steps, RXR will prepare preliminary CAD layouts, evaluate equipment options, identify necessary structural modifications, compare alternative designs, and consider constructability and operational impacts.
Deliverable: Conceptual General Arrangement package outlining potential solutions.
Phase 4 — Establish Budget and Feasibility
Develop preliminary equipment pricing, fabrication and installation budgets, engineering estimates, project schedules, and return-on-investment considerations.
Deliverables: Budgetary cost estimate, schedule, and feasibility recommendations.
Project approved: concept selected with its budget and schedule
Phase 5 — Detailed Engineering & Design
When the most appropriate concept has been selected with its corresponding budget and schedule, RXR will produce an in-depth engineering package that identifies all in-scope equipment and automation, construction/installation phases, as well as any other deliverables necessary to issue various work packages for bid out to contractors.
Deliverables: Installation drawings, fabrication drawings, construction documentation and bid packages.
Phase 6 — Procurement, Project Execution, and Start-Up
RXR can coordinate directly with equipment suppliers, fabricators, trades and contractors, using the budgets, schedules, and any relevant deliverables created for the end-users/clients. We will also support construction activities throughout the installation; especially amidst startup and commissioning activities.
Deliverable: Procurement, construction support, project management and start-up support.
